a5c7b9f00b Two years have passed since the CCG's raid on Anteiku. Although the atmosphere in Tokyo has changed drastically due to the increased influence of the CCG, ghouls continue to pose a problem as they have begun taking caution, especially the terrorist organization Aogiri Tree, who acknowledge the CCG's growing threat to their existence. The creation of a special team, known as the Quinx Squad, may provide the CCG with the push they need to exterminate Tokyo's unwanted residents. As humans who have undergone surgery in order to make use of the special abilities of ghouls, they participate in operations to eradicate the dangerous creatures. The leader of this group, Haise Sasaki, is a half-ghoul, half-human who has been trained by famed special class investigator, Kishou Arima. However, there's more to this young man than meets the eye, as unknown memories claw at his mind, slowly reminding him of the person he used to be. Tokyo Ghoul: Re is the third installment in the Tokyo Ghoul series which takes place after Root A. What caught my attention in this show opposed to the other two seasons is its tone. This adaption feels as if it has a sense of maturity to it. This may be due to it having and older cast of characters. Tokyo Ghoul has always felt like it wants to be super edgy, and focuses more on stylized gore than good character arcs. Although this time around the show actually seems like it will tell a more compelling character focused story. This is all just based off of the first episode, though. I am very excited to see what happens from here on! At a meeting somewhere in Japan an anime executive must have stood up and asked, "How can we make this anime series sequel terrible?" It's as if someone systematically removed everything that was unique, different, or interesting from the Tokyo Ghoul franchise, and replaced it all with tired, worn out anime tropes. Now it's full of cocky, brooding, posing, hero-types. And a sword, someone needs to have a plain old sword (fans love swords). And all the main characters, let's make them all kind of 18 to 21, young and sexy, that's what we want (marketing says the demographic skews this way). And only one freak half-ghoul? Screw that, lots of them! And they fight the ghouls because… well, whatever. They can be tortured souls then, who cares.

I don't know what show people were watching when they left their ratings, but it couldn't be the same one I watched. The show I watched was so thoroughly generic it was like it was designed using every anime cliche they could think of. I don't think there was a cute mascot creature-thing, but don't quote me on that, I didn't watch it all the way through. I couldn't take much of it. And I didn't see any cute super-deformed bits, but again I wouldn't be surprised to see some in it.

Save yourself the disappointment I've experienced and skip this.
